A Sea Breeze is required!
How did that happen ? One minute we were at a wine tasting at Can Gelat on a rainy Spring afternoon and now it’s well into the hot summer days and the great Pollença festivals are looming. Of course that means the famous Patrona with its legendary White Nights party, the Moors and Christians battle and then the superb Music Festival, now in its 63rd year, which brings to our town world class classical musicians from across the globe.
Things seem a little different this year, perhaps the euphoria after the first couple of summers’ post lock down have now passed and people are thinking differently. The beaches, bars and restaurants are just not as busy. They are certainly not empty but there is a much more gentle and relaxed feeling when you go out, less hurried, in fact more Mediterranean.
When it gets hot then we head for the sea, the breeze just takes the edge off the intensity and what better way to spend a hot Sunday than down at Numa on Playa de Muro. We first had dinner there a few weeks ago with our friends and then rather surprisingly for us, we spontaneously decided to go for lunch on Sunday…of course having first made a ‘just in case they are full‘ reservation, ! It’s a beautiful spot right on the beach with beautiful views of the bay with that turquoise blue sea sparkling away. It has a great menu that has a nice balance between Mediterranean favourites, some Asian influences and a really good cocktail list.
We had a delicious lunch of fish tacos, tuna tartare, lobster and gyozas. All prepared perfectly with a real attention to detail. Numa could easily be one of those beachside places that simply relies on its superb location and the guaranteed tourist trade, but it doesn’t. Now in its second year it seems to be building a great reputation for creative food served up in style.
It’s a beach club feel and styling but not one that makes you feel uncomfortable if you are a slightly more mature beachgoer! In fact it’s a really lovely mix of people either enjoying the fabulous food in the buzzy restaurant or sipping cocktails in the lovely lounge area right on the beach listening to some very cool sounds…especially this Sunday when we had a lovely 80s soundtrack for those of us who remember it well!
Give it a go if only for the Nachos and Hugo Spritz!
